About us
The Centre of Research Excellence PAVING: Post-Acute Viral Infection diseases Group is a multi-million-dollar research centre funded by the National Health and Medical Research Centre that unites recognised experts from La Trobe University, The University of Queensland, Monash University, Queensland Institute of Medical Research Berghofer (QIMR), The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), Murdoch University, Griffith University and Deakin University with a shared goal to improve patient outcomes.
Why PAVING?
We are national leaders in post‑viral infection research, bringing together cutting‑edge science, clinical expertise, and lived experience to deliver impact. Our integrated programs build a skilled workforce, share resources, and translate discoveries into real‑world solutions. Without our coordinated national effort, understanding long‑lasting viral symptoms including Long COVID will remain slow, delaying effective treatments. By partnering with lived experience participants, clinicians, and international experts, we can uncover why symptoms persist after a viral infection and turn knowledge into action. Together we are paving the way to better treatments, care, and health outcomes for Australians.
